Carpet: Wall-to-Wall Germs
What’s 4,000x dirtier than a toilet seat, contains 200,000 bacteria per square inch and is home to hundreds of thousands of different species? If you answered with “home carpeting,” then you’re correct – at least according to research conducted by Philip Tierno, Jr., a New York University microbiologist/immunologist at Langone Medical Center. The findings indicates that your carpet probably contains about 200,000 bacteria per square inch, making it 4,000 times dirtier than your toilet seat. "Rugs are botanical and zoological parks," says Tierno, who says hundreds of thousands of different types of species live there.
These invasions occur because the average person sheds about 1.5 million skin cells every hour; these skin cells hit the rug and serve as food for germs. Add in food particles, pollen, and pet dander, and you have a gratis buffet, he says. And since a vacuum cleaner's suction and rotating beater brush don't usually reach the bottom of the carpet, you're bound to have communities of E.coli, salmonella, staphylococcus, and other bacteria down there. Our testing method is simpler and utilizes a stronger vacuum, but the results will shock you no matter HOW you test. Mattress cleaning specialists have popped up everywhere, but you still have to deal with the issue on furnishings and drapes throughout your house.
First, it's clearly a problem in bedrooms, and our solution is to first assess whether your mattresses might contain bedbugs, then to neutralize them using cleaning, post spraying to change the PH of the mattress (dust mites are very sensitive to changes in PH and humidity), sometimes combined with UV light, and then we can help you install non-permeable mattress covers. THEN, we will turn that same attention to other furnishings and carpets, rugs and drapes which can not be covered with non-permeable protection and test and neutralize them also.
